Music is a permanently developing industry, which is inundated with highlights, turning points, and remarkable event. The list of the most prominent moments in the whole music history can move forward and forward. In my list, I mentioned the top 5 important events in the history of music for the last decade from my perspective.

  1. The advent of Spotify.

July 2011 — Spotify appears in the U.S. It was met quite coolly, as musicians who relied on album sales and radio rotation only don’t realize yet that the streaming service would go on to become one of the country’s most popular music platforms by the end of 2019, with an aggressive growth plan for the next decade.

2. “Despacito” is everywhere.

January 2017 — Luis Fonsi and Daddy Yankee’s released a worldwide hit “Despacito”. The song has become the first YouTube video to receive five billion views, the most-streamed track around the globe. Moreover, “Despacito” has proved that music doesn’t have to be fully understood to be beloved.

3. Cardi B’s phenomenon

With only a few years as one of the biggest figures in the music industry to her credit, what Cardi B has been able to achieve in such a short span of time is truly incredible. Her globe-hits “I Like It” rose to the top of single charts, joining “Bodak Yellow” making Cardi B the first female rapper to claim two Number Ones. In 2021, she added another impressive nod to her name becoming the first-ever female rapper to have a diamond-certified single. It’s considered to be an enormous success in female hip-hop.

4. Tik-Tok boom

January 2019-A new app with more than 1 billion downloads broke into the music industry without any excuse. The social app in which users make 15-second videos set to music ‘s undermined the whole logic of gaining popularity. Whereas other platforms require popularity to be built up by metrics like follower count and share ratios, TikTok’s algorithm is geared toward fast discoveries that can make any no-name artist a superstar if his track generates so-called “trends”. Since then, the whole pop-music industry turned upside down, and now is trying to release tracks that are likely to set trends in TikTok, and therefore will become popular.

5. K-pop mania

K-pop music has blown up the music industry not right away. Originating in South Korea, it took a while for K-pop to gain worldwide recognition since it had been popularized in Asia only. There is a countless number of K-pop group, but the undisputed leader of K-pop is the band “BTS”. During their first tour in 2017 North America, the band had to move from halls into arenas and eventually domes due to the enormous number of people who longed to come. The tickets were sold out within minutes and two additional shows were added due to high demand, making BTS the first K-pop act to sell out arenas in the United States. What’s more, in 2017 BTS attended the 25th Billboard Music Awards and won Top Social Artist, becoming the first Korean group awarded a Billboard Music Award. Till 2021 the band won the accolade every year.
